Why Simple Observability?
SigNoz is an impressive open-source observability platform. If you want full-stack APM with distributed tracing, metrics, and logs, all native to OpenTelemetry, and you have the engineering capacity to self-host and maintain it, it is one of the strongest open-source options available.
But "open-source" is not the same as "free." The license costs nothing. The real cost is operational. You are hosting a ClickHouse database, an OpenTelemetry collector, and the SigNoz application itself. You provision the storage, tune the database, handle upgrades, manage retention, and scale it as data grows. SigNoz does not monitor itself. It is infrastructure you now operate, on top of the infrastructure you already have.
Simple Observability is the operational picture, maintained for you. Lightweight server health, centralized logs, scheduled jobs, and other essential checks flow into a single, pre-configured dashboard. No database to tune, no collector to run, no OpenTelemetry pipeline to maintain. Just the visibility you need to keep infrastructure running, with zero manual setup and a fixed per-server price.
Deep observability engineering versus operational reliability. SigNoz is built for teams who want to trace requests, instrument code with OpenTelemetry, and analyze performance at the span level. That is a legitimate job. But if your job is keeping infrastructure running, deploying a sophisticated APM platform to do it is overhead, not leverage. Simple Observability gives you the operational answers that matter without the engineering platform underneath.
